David Weislogel was our property manager for about 9 years, at 2 different buildings. That’s right, when it was time to move, we called up David to find our new place. Fair and thoughtful in dealing with problems, high integrity, compassionate yet has good boundaries. Responsive in emergencies, yet a respectful hands-off approach is the day-to-day standard – which is nice, because it gives the residents space to take ownership.
My neighbor and I created a vegetable garden out of an unused part of the property. It was lovely to have the freedom to do that.
David also has an excellent sense of humor, which is so helpful when bizarre problems with your neighbors arise. It’s been a pleasure to get to know him over the years.

PS. Property owners appreciate this quality of service too, because David attracts loyal tenants who stick around and take good care of the property.

PPS. There is no “Barker” or “Calkins” anymore, for well over a decade…. it’s just Weislogel. Yeah, it’s quirky.

I have rented from Barker & Calkins for 4+ years at 2 different properties, one on SE 34th & Hawthorne and the other also located in inner Southeast Portland- both fantastic locations and beautiful properties! Anytime I have ever needed anything, David is quick to respond and is always respectful and kind. He also has a knack for renting to the best tenants (I have never had a complaint with any of my neighbors). If you’re looking for someone who cares about you as a tenant, and a person- this is the place to be! Or if you’re looking for someone to make sure your property is in the best of hands (like Karen mentioned- tenants who also care about your property)- David is one of a kind.

If I ever move again, it will definitely be to a property David is managing!

David is the nicest property manager I have ever had the pleasure of knowing. As a 4 year plus tenant I was amazed at how thoughtful and speedy his response was when ever we needed repairs or needed to add or remove someone to the house lease. He is also a personable man, who is not afraid to be witty. I found him to be fair and like Karin W pointed out he allowed us to maintain the yard so we were able to build raised beds and a beautiful small vanity pond in our rentals yard. I am sad to be forced to move because an owner is selling her property, but I am happy to have had such a nice four + years renting from Barker and Calkins! Owners you can trust that David rents out to folks like us who take pride in their rentals leaving them in better than they found them. If I could give a Champion Property Management trophy to this firm I would!

Dave takes care of any issue immediately, with respect of my time and space. Recently, I had my garbage disposal go bad, and they had it fixed before I got home from work that same day.
